Everything you need to know about painting a new house

Painting is part of the finishing touches on a new house construction project. The choice of colors and the type of paints are determining factors in the success of your painting. Discover all our tips on how to paint a new house.

Colors to decorate your new home

Whether it’s the exterior or the interior, colors give a home a soul. This is why paint, like floor coverings, is part of the decorative elements of a house. A light color will not give the same effect as a dark color. Likewise, some colors blend more easily with solid wood flooring, gray tiles, stone, or vinyl imitation wood. Some color combinations are more fashionable than others. Even if nothing is final and you can repaint a wall or a ceiling, painting a new house remains a significant budget. For this reason, it is advisable to take the necessary time to choose the color of the kitchen wall,

What are the different types of paints available?

To paint your new house, you will have at your disposal different types of paints:

 • the acrylic paint, also called water paint;

• glycerophthalic paint, also called glycerol paint, or oil paint;

• the alkyd paint is a compromise between the two previous paintings;

• organic paint which is made up of natural products.

The main element that differentiates the first two paints is the following: the glycerol paint gives off a strong odor as well as VOCs, or Volatile Organic Compounds, which can be dangerous. On the contrary, the odor given off by the water-based paint is very weak. Regarding the drying time, it is fast for acrylic paint and long for glycerol paint. Alkyd paint and organic paint emit few VOCs and are therefore less toxic, but their drying time is longer than that of acrylic paint.

Choose the paint according to the part to be painted

It is advisable to choose paint according to the use of the room. Indeed, you will not choose the same paint for a facade, a bathroom, a kitchen or a bedroom. If you have to choose between glycero paint and acrylic paint, the very covering properties of glycerol paint will lead you to prefer it for woodwork, the kitchen or the bathroom. Otherwise, acrylic paint and alkyd paint can be used in any room of a new home. The application of water-based paint or organic paint is all the more pleasant as neither one emits an odor.
